Carl is the Chairman of Grivner Capital Group and responsible for the strategic vision of the firm as well as working with our portfolio companies. Based in London, Carl is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Colt Technology Group, S.A and is ranked in the Global Telecoms Business' Power 100 and Top 10 in Europe. He was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Pacnet, a leading telecom provider in Asia Pacific, which he sold to Telstra for US $725 million in early 2015. He has over 25 years of international executive and leadership experience including 15 years at the level of Chief Executive Officer at major telecommunications companies in North and Central America, Europe and Asia. Additionally, Carl currently serves on the boards of Inform, Inc. (formerly NDN News) and CloudSmartz, Inc.
Before his appointment to Pacnet, Carl was Chief Executive Officer of XO Communications, a leading telecommunications company in the United States, where he transformed the business from a local exchange carrier to a national carrier by growing the enterprise customer segment and by developing and implementing a new broadband and data/IP strategy. Under his leadership, XO Communications grew revenues over 50% to $1.5 billion. Carl also led the company's successful acquisition and integration of Allegiance Telecom, achieving $180 million in synergies in 16 months.
Prior to XO Communications, Carl held several executive level positions in the telecommunications and information technology industry. He was Chief Operating Officer of Global Crossing, Chief Executive Officer of Worldport Communications, Chief Executive Officer of Cable & Wireless plc (Western Hemisphere) where he headed the North American operations, and Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Fibre Communications, where he led its successful IPO. He also held various senior management positions at Ameritech and IBM.
Carl holds an undergraduate degree from Lycoming College in Pennsylvania and served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Carl is also a FAA instrument rated pilot.
